The Kansas City area office of The Weitz Company has been awarded First Place in the 500,001 Work Hours Category by the MO & KS Builders’ Association Safety Excellence Awards Program 2012 for work completed in 2011. This is the third year in a row that the Lenexa, Kansas location of Weitz has achieved one of the top safety awards from the area Builders’ Association. In 2011, for work completed in 2010, Weitz received the Grand Safety Award in all categories as well as First Place in the 700,001 work hours category. In 2010, for work completed in 2009, Weitz received First Place in the 100,000 hours or less category. The Weitz Company’s commitment to safety results in lower insurance rates for our clients, but most important helps keep every single worker in the field and office injury free.

The newly renovated Veterans Memorial Auditorium, built by The Weitz Company was named the winner in the $10 million and over category at the 100th annual Master Builders of Iowa (MBI) convention recently held in Des Moines, IA. The Masters Award program was created to recognize the exceptional efforts of a construction team in executing the process of completing a project. More than 500 people attended the convention in the grand ballroom of the Veterans Memorial Auditorium.  Founded in 1912, the MBI is the recognized leader of the construction industry in the State of Iowa and is one of more than 100 chapters of the AGC of America. Day 30 of the Live Healthy America 100 Day Wellness Challenge and already great results. More than 150 Weitz employees on 25 teams are participating in the challenge which began on January 23 and concludes May 1. So far, Weitz team members have logged more than 2,000 hours of activity and report total weight lost at 399 pounds. The 100 Day Wellness Challenge is a team centric weight loss and physical activity program to assist individuals in making positive changes leading to a healthier lifestyle. We won an ADDY Award and you’re looking at it! The Weitz Company is pleased to announce that Weitz and our web design partner Flying Hippo Web Technologies were awarded a Silver ADDY from the Des Moines Chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AFF). Weitz and Flying Hippo were presented the Silver ADDY in the Website, B-to-B HTML, Services category at an awards ceremony held Saturday, February 11, 2012 in Des Moines.

According to the AFF, headquartered in Washington, D.C., the ADDY Awards is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting over 50,000 entries every year in local ADDY competitions. The mission of the ADDY competition is to recognize and reward creative excellence in the art of advertising.

The AFF of Des Moines honors central Iowa’s best creative work each year and receives more than 500 entries in its local ADDY competition. Selection of the most creative entry in each category is through a scoring process in which a panel of judges evaluates all creative dimensions of every entry. A Gold ADDY is the highest recognition, a Silver ADDY is also considered outstanding.

The Weitz Company hired Flying Hippo Web Technologies, Urbandale, IA in July 2011 to redesign the existing Weitz website. In just three short months, the Weitz and Hippo team launched an entirely new look on September 28. The updated website features more about our building experience – over 1,800 project photos – and more information about the services Weitz offers our clients. Plus, we think it looks pretty snazzy too!!!

Coneheads Unite! Join us as we sponsor team Weitz Coneheads in the 40th Annual RAGBRAI®, a seven-day bicycle ride across Iowa.

RAGBRAI®, The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa is the oldest, largest and longest touring bicycle ride in the world. Des Moines Register Media has been the title sponsor of RAGBRAI since 1973. Weitz employees have participated in the event for more than 20 years. This year’s race dates are July 21- July 28, 2012.
