National general contractor and construction management firm The Weitz Company has added to its business development team in the Midwest.

Vince Ward, a 24-year design and construction industry professional, has joined Weitz as a director of business development. Ward will work within the company’s Iowa Commercial business unit that operates out of Des Moines, pairing with Weitz Senior Vice President Jim McCulloh to provide more than 60 years of planning, development, design and construction experience collectively.

“We became familiar with Vince during his 14 years with architect DLR Group,” said Mike Tousley, executive vice president and general manager of The Weitz Company. “His personality and knowledge of the industry are a perfect match for this position, and I’m confident he will help Weitz continue to deliver superior customer experiences that lead to amazing projects.”

The addition of Ward affords Weitz the opportunity to transition Ben Bruns into a business development role that is centered around the 162-year-old company’s national product lines. Weitz’s National business unit has a niche in the senior living and student housing markets and continues to expand into sectors such as data centers and aviation.

Bruns, who has been with Weitz since 2001, will remain based in Des Moines and will continue to serve in the community by volunteering for not-for-profit organizations such as Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Iowa, Children and Families of Iowa, Des Moines Symphony and Science Center of Iowa.

“This represents a great opportunity, as well as another career challenge, for Ben to move our company to another level nationally,” Tousley said.
