Hoyt Sherman Place Addition & Renovation

Des Moines, IA

The Weitz Company performed restoration, remodel and expansion efforts at this historic landmark. A major focus of this renovation was the theatre area and gallery. Weitz completed the work while the facility remained in operation.

Hoyt Sherman Place was originally a grand manor home built in 1877 by prominent businessman Hoyt Sherman. The structure is now a museum and performing arts center, featuring 19th and 20th century paintings, elaborately carved 17th century furniture and many rare, classic works of art. A theater was added in 1923 by Weitz and hosts an impressive array of world-renowned musicians and local performing arts events.
