Project used nearly 100% union labor and will serve members for years to come.

DES MOINES, IA – The Weitz Company attended the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 347’s Open House Event on February 25, 2022, celebrating the completion of their new office space and meeting hall, built by Weitz.

“This was a really successful project from design throughout construction that I’m proud to have been a part of,” says Ryan Catus, Project Manager at The Weitz Company “We focused on making this a project that the union could be proud of and call home for the next 100 years. Maximizing union participation made for a fun project experience for everyone involved.”

This new facility will serve as hub for members of the IBEW Local 347 to collaborate and gather. The local electricians’ unit was a design-build project composed of steel frame and a precast and curtainwall exterior.

The 15,400 SF single-story building was completed by nearly 100% union labor, and has several unique features including an intricate terrazzo floor logo and laminated glass doors displaying the union’s charter image.

In the meeting hall, a one-of-a-kind custom desk was crafted (pictured below). The desk can be rolled into the curved millwork wall at the back of the stage, giving the illusion of an invisible desk to those in the hall.
