Des Moines International Airport New Terminal

Des Moines, IA

The Weitz Company is part of the CMaR joint venture team constructing the new $450 million terminal at Des Moines International Airport in Des Moines, IA. The airport is undergoing a total transformation of the facility to add to the airport’s existing footprint.

At just over 265,000 sq ft, the new terminal includes ticketing, an updated and more efficient outbound/inbound baggage handling system and screening, security, offices, concessions, support areas, and a connection to the existing concourse. When complete, the new terminal building will offer a skyway bridge to the parking garage, a connection to the existing concourse, a new energy plant, and a new office building. Five aircraft gates will be built in addition to the existing gates.

“Our CMaR approach goes beyond only crunching the numbers. As a CMaR, we engage in open design dialog to help inform project details and the project budget to achieve the desired solution.” – Dan Solem, Project Executive for Weitz|Turner – Des Moines International Airport

The new terminal will include upgraded technology and improved sustainability. It will take the airport to new heights, featuring charming airfield views. It will have a long-lasting economic impact as the Central Iowa region continues to grow while attracting new businesses and talents, making connectivity a vital component.
