APS Trilby Wash Control House

Surprise, AZ

Weitz was hired by Black & Veatch to build a new 230kV/69 KV substation for Arizona Public Service (APS) located in Surprise, Ariz. The building is constructed as out-of-the-ground CMU with metal joist and deck and extensive MP&E involving redundant systems. The electrical scope included an electrode grounding system at all metal doors, frames, AC units and cable trays to protect the equipment and personnel working in this building from the very large magnetic field that is created in the substation itself.

The building controls the transformers in the substations that convert power to either higher or lower voltage coming into the station from other substations and power plants around the state and region.
