Texas A&M Park West
College Station, TXTexas A&M Park West is a mixed-use, luxury student housing community on Texas A&M University campus in College Station. It consists of 15 buildings that provide 3,406 beds in studio, one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom apartment floor plans. At the time of construction, it was the largest student housing development in the United States.
The largest building in the development is an eight-story structure that has more than 1,800 beds wrapped around a central parking garage, amenity deck and fitness center. Two, five-story mirrored buildings hold approximately 500 beds each. Townhome style flats are located around the perimeter of the site and offer one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans.
Rooms offer private bedrooms, in suite bathrooms and walk-in closets. Each unit is fully furnished and has granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances, wood flooring and in-unit washers/dryers. The community features three resort style pools and fitness centers along with cabanas, grills, fire pits, study lounges and a convenience store.
Park West was built under a public-private partnership between the Texas A&M University System, Servitas and The Weitz Company. It was delivered in less than two years using a fast-track, design-build strategy.
The Park West project team leveraged Building Information Modeling (BIM) to identify constraints and clashes with structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing subcontractors prior to work being performed. Technology such as Bluebeam and virtual reality were also instrumental in enabling quick, timely decisions. We replicated 1.4 million square feet of Park West in a virtual environment (over 15,000 square feet of units and 74,000 square feet from the amenity deck), which enabled the client to make better, more informed decisions by visualizing the space virtually.
“The construction professionals at Weitz have been top-notch, and they delivered a high-quality product that will serve Aggies for decades. This public-private partnership has led to the best student housing development in the country – maybe the world – to be constructed without the university taking on any debt as well as allowing the System to strengthen our core mission of teaching, research and service.”
