Johnson County Justice Annex

To complete this project, Weitz had to renovate an old Dillon’s grocery store to accommodate three different departments in the Johnson County Justice System – Sheriff’s Office, Court Trustees and Court Services. The team-specific goal on this project was to “Un-Dillonize the Dillon’s” and turn the facility into a stately civic facility.

The front elevation was rebuilt with structural steel and load bearing concrete masonry units. This 48,000-square-foot facility includes one single, light-filled entry for all three departments, offices, conference rooms and public space to meet the specific needs of each department, with security of the utmost importance. Additional design features included an entry shaded by wood-clad, steel trellis and windows and rooftop monitors to bring natural light deep into what before was a windowless space.

The renovation included complete demolition to the structure, including all mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems.
