Weitz was selected as construction manager to replace the Fremont Family YMCA’s original instructional pool (installed in 1969) and the 25-meter lap pool (built in 1994) with a state-of-the-art aquatics center that features the largest pool ever built at a YMCA in the United States.
The Fremont Family YMCA chose a Myrtha competition pool for its new aquatics center. At 11,204 square feet, the pool includes six, 50-meter swim lanes and 12, 25-meter lanes with a 12-foot diving well. Its shallowest point is 3 feet 6 inches to accommodate youth swimming lessons, and there is a splash pad for younger children. Total capacity of the pool is 421 swimmers, and the aquatics center has a seating capacity of 386 people.
The 29,745-square-foot addition made the Fremont Family YMCA the largest in the United States at the time of completion.
