This upscale retail store is located one block from the Atlantic Ocean on prominent Worth Avenue in Palm Beach. The most significant challenge of the project was the construction of two levels of underground parking below the three retail levels. Concrete auger piles served as a retaining wall for the 25-foot deep excavation and as the foundation for a 5-foot deep mat slab, which was placed in a continuous pour of 5,000 cubic yards of concrete.
This building’s Mediterranean design included a clay tile roof, cast stone trim and exposed wood timbers. The store’s interior features a 52-foot clerestory atrium, stone flooring, wood retail casework and luxurious wall finishes.
The Weitz Company self-performed a number of general trades and supplemented the subcontractors workforce when necessary. The entire assignment, including the shell and interior finishes, was completed several weeks ahead of schedule.
