Gleneagles Fitness Center Addition

Delray Beach, FL

The Club’s new facility, called the Healthy Lifestyle Center, includes a resort-style outdoor pool and a 2-story, 16,045 SF replacement fitness center that connects seamlessly with the existing clubhouse. Upgraded amenities include a hot tub; wading pool; cardio and strength training equipment; group exercise room; massage treatment center; physical therapy area; and a multi-purpose room to accommodate fitness and social events. The project also involved modifying the Club’s existing grille room and bar to fit the new pool deck footprint.

Building the WeitzWay

Tying the new fitness center to the existing Clubhouse, which is open for business 365 days a year, became a central challenge of the project, said Weitz Senior Project Manager Mark Brunski. Adding to the challenge: a tightly-constrained job site bordered by the Clubhouse, an operating golf course, a main community road, an active loading dock, and the club’s commercial laundry facility. Weitz met the challenge with careful planning and Lean methodology. As construction proceeded, temporary walls and roofs were built to ensure safety, protect exposed areas from weather, and most importantly, shield clubhouse operations from disruption. With 36 subcontractors to coordinate, Lean Last Planner was a valuable tool, helping to optimize efficiency in scheduling.
