Des Moines International Airport New Terminal

Des Moines, IA

The Weitz Company is part of the CMaR joint venture team constructing the $450 million terminal at Des Moines International Airport, marking a major transformation of the facility.

Spanning over 265,000 square feet, the new terminal will enhance the passenger experience with upgraded ticketing areas, advanced baggage handling and screening, additional concessions, and more. As of June 2025, construction of the terminal reached its halfway point and will eventually feature a skyway bridge to the newly expanded parking garage, a connection to the existing concourse, a new energy plant, and a new office building. The Weitz Company (WTJV) was recently awarded an expansion phase for this project (Phases 1A, 1B West, 1B East are under contract, taking the total number of boarding gates from 5 to 11), Weitz is very excited to continue serving this client and a community project

“Our CMaR approach goes beyond only crunching the numbers. As a CMaR, we engage in open design dialog to help inform project details and the project budget to achieve the desired solution.” – Dan Solem, Project Executive for Weitz | Turner – Des Moines International Airport

The new terminal will include upgraded technology and improved sustainability. It will take the airport to new heights, featuring charming airfield views. It will have a long-lasting economic impact as the Central Iowa region continues to grow while attracting new businesses and talents, making connectivity a vital component.
