Yampa Valley Regional Airport Takes Flight with Groundbreaking Ceremony

June 11, 2026  /  Blog,

A new chapter has begun as shovels hit the ground at Yampa Valley Regional Airport on Monday, June 8th, in Hayden, CO. Routt County officials, members of The Weitz Company, and team members gathered to celebrate the start of a project that will bring expanded capacity and an enhanced travel experience for passengers throughout the region.

Located in Hayden, CO, the Yampa Valley Regional Airport Terminal Expansion will include four new gates, new TSA baggage screening and handling system, dining and concessions, geothermal heating, boarding bridges, and updated conveyance systems. The airport is located just 25 miles from Steamboat Springs, and this project marks the largest in Routt County, CO history.

“There’s a lot of excitement around what this expansion means for the future of Yampa Valley Regional Airport and the surrounding communities,” said John Carricarte, Project Executive with The Weitz Company. “We’re proud to be part of a project that will help accommodate the region’s growth and provide travelers with an improved experience for years to come.”

We are proud to celebrate this milestone and look forward to bringing the Yampa Valley Regional Airport terminal expansion from vision to reality.
