With a strong portfolio of projects across the U.S., Weitz consistently delivers quality living spaces tailored to student needs. Earning a reputation for reliability and innovation in the field, Weitz has completed over 100 student housing projects across the nation, totaling over 35,000 beds—with zero late deliveries.
Safety, on-time delivery, and innovation are at the core of Weitz’s success. By integrating rigorous safety protocols with a forward-thinking approach to construction, Weitz consistently delivers results—on schedule and with next generation solutions tailored to each project, including some of the company’s most upscale projects mentioned below.
The Standard at Berkeley & The Standard at Coral Gables
By building and maintaining strong, trust-based relationships with clients, Weitz has earned the confidence of multiple repeat clients—enabling the company to secure multiple projects simultaneously with a single owner. The Standard – a Landmark Properties development – is a high-end student housing complex that has properties all over the nation, both on- and off-campuses. With Weitz’s strong relationships, our teams were able to procure two major Standard’s projects, on opposite sides of the United States.
The Standard at Berkeley is an off-campus student housing community near the University of California-Berkeley campus. Weitz took on the challenge of preserving the exterior of what was once a city landmark – The Fred Turner Building, while renovating the interior with unique floor plans and amenities that include a rooftop deck and a state-of-the-art fitness center. Staffing this project in a state without an established office presented unique logistical and operational challenges. Through the company’s preconstruction team’s proactive planning, strategic partnerships, and leveraging the company’s national network of talent, Weitz successfully assembled a skilled team that upheld their “Standards” of quality, safety, and efficiency.
On the other side of the U.S., The Standard at Coral Gables is a premier mixed-use student housing community spanning over 400,000 square feet. The development features a range of upscale amenities, and a strong emphasis on honoring the character and architectural heritage of the local community with a refined Spanish Colonial design.
University of Florida’s Undergraduate Residential Complex with Honors College
Located on Museum Road in Gainesville, Florida, the University of Florida’s new Undergraduate Residential Complex with Honors College is designed to build a community among students and staff. The complex features several academic support spaces, including faculty offices, a maker studio, ensemble and art studios, a mindfulness suite, and a versatile Great Hall. This project is a testament to how Weitz blends contemporary architectural design with high-end functionality, consistently delivering spaces that meet the evolving needs of universities and their communities.
As with every project at The Weitz Company, safety was the top priority for the operations team behind the University of Florida’s Undergraduate Honors College. Ensuring the safety of students on an active campus was paramount and influenced every aspect of the onsite safety strategy. In an effort to continue to innovate the safety practices on an active campus, the Weitz team implemented a site-wide communication tool for onsite workers as well as required all workers to participate in a safety orientation covering site-specific hazards and more. These innovations continues to push the company to remain leading student housing construction experts.
Texas A&M University: Park West
At the time of its development, Texas A&M University: Park West stood as the largest student housing and mixed-use project in the nation. Spanning two million square feet, the project comprises 15 buildings, three pools, and over 3,400 beds across a variety of unit types. The project team leveraged virtual reality technology, engaged student engineers, and fostered a collaborative design process to deliver a forward-thinking, integrated living environment.
The Weitz Company continues to set the standard by blending innovative design with dependable delivery, creating quality living environments that meet the unique needs of students across the country.
