Florida Atlantic University Boca Raton Campus Student Housing Project Reaches Key Topping Out Milestone; Jupiter Campus Student Housing Project Underway
Boca Raton, FL. – The Weitz Company completed the topping out of Florida Atlantic University’s newest student housing project on the Boca Raton Campus. In lieu of a formal milestone celebration, the project team handed out t-shirts to recognize this project achievement.
The new 616-bed, 7-story, 186,000 square-foot student housing facility replaces the 94-bed Algonquin Hall which was originally built in 1965. The ground floor will feature an academic advising, learning and career center called the Get Wise Facility, which will be accessible to all university students.
“We are thrilled to celebrate this exciting milestone amidst COVID-19,” said Dennis Gallagher, Executive Vice President and General Manager of The Weitz Company’s office in West Palm Beach, FL. “The project team has worked exceptionally hard to keep this project on track.”
The Weitz Company is also constructing the new residence hall on FAU’s MacArthur Campus located in Jupiter, FL. Once complete, the project will house a total of 165 beds spanning over 3 stories and 58,000 square-feet. The project will also feature a computer lab, and fitness center that is accessible to all campus students.
COVID-19 has added additional complexities and enhanced safety measures to the projects, but the project teams are proud to say that both campus projects remain on course to be complete by Summer 2021. When complete, they will feature two- and four-bedroom units with common space, study lounges, community kitchen, laundry facilities, and courtyard with picnic tables.
Serving as the construction manager on both campus projects, Weitz is working with architect KSQ Design and housing developer Greystar.
