DES MOINES, Iowa Associated General Contractors of America has honored The Weitz Company with a prestigious Build America award for the construction of Park West, a student housing development on the campus of Texas A&M University.

Chosen as the Merit winner in the Design-Build category of the AGC’s top awards program, The Weitz Company was recognized because of its efficient and collaborative delivery of Park West – a public-private partnership with the Texas A&M University System and Irving, Texas-based developer Servitas. Spanning 50 acres and 2.2 million square feet with a total of 3,406 beds across 15 different buildings, Park West is the largest student housing development ever constructed under a P3 in the United States.

One of five general contractors that have been members of AGC of America since its inception in 1918, Weitz delivered Park West ahead of schedule in July 2017 after starting construction less than two years earlier in August 2015.

“Our project team deserves a great amount of credit for building an award-winning community,” said The Weitz Company President and CEO Kevin McClain. “Yet, the underlying success of Park West was rooted in our ability to exceed the expectations of Texas A&M and Servitas. This award is a testament to how well every project stakeholder worked together to enable that success.”

The Build America awards honor AGC members that build the nation’s most impressive construction projects from a variety of divisions – building; highway and transportation; utility infrastructure; and federal and heavy. Build America winners excel in state-of-the-art advancement; project management; innovation in construction techniques or materials; safety record; client service; community relations; environmental sensitivity; and partnering excellence.
