Weitz Completes Renovation of The Beach Club’s Pool and Deck
WEST PALM BEACH, Florida – The Weitz Company has completed another renovation to The Beach Club of Palm Beach with the addition of a replacement pool, outdoor pavilion, open-air bar/dining area and interactive water feature.
The Beach Club, located directly on the Atlantic Ocean, originally hired Weitz 12 years ago to modernize its clubhouse. The new pool and beach bar project was a further upgrade to this members-only club facility, which was built in 1970 and designed by noted Palm Beach Society architect John Volk.
“We enjoy the challenge of working on oceanfront hospitality properties such as The Beach Club,” said The Weitz Company Executive Vice President and General Manager Dennis Gallagher. “This distinguished, older building located east of the Coastal Construction Control Line required special care and adherence to stricter standards set by the state.”
Because of The Beach Club’s proximity to the ocean, pilings were placed under the new pool and associated structures to protect them from tidal surges that can occur during hurricanes and rough weather. Specialty, amber-colored lighting was installed in compliance with environmental laws designed to protect endangered sea turtles.
The Beach Club’s new pool is larger than the original and provides a gradual, beach-type entry. Alongside the pool, a tented pavilion creates a shaded lounging area complete with mounted, flat-screen televisions. More shade is provided by strategically placed beach umbrellas anchored into the pool deck. The interactive water feature – a big attraction for children – is essentially a flat fountain with water spouts that dance in rhythm to music. The outdoor bar, which sits under a New England-style wooden pergola, includes finishes such as inlaid blue crystal cut stone and customized lighting.
The Beach Club renovations and additions were designed by Peacock + Lewis Architects.
