Assiut Power Plant

Assiut, Egypt

A partner in consortium project with General Electric, the Assiut Power Plant was built in two phases to create the 1,500-megawatt facility. The original construction (completed in November 2015) consisted of the engineering, supply, installation, erection, commissioning and startup of a 1,000-megawatt, simple cycle power project. Orascom’s scope included carrying out all the engineering, construction, start-up and commissioning works for the complete power plant, as well as the balance of plant (BOP) procurement.

In 2015, Orascom and General Electric signed another contract to convert the plant from simple to combined cycle with additional capacity of 500 megawatts. The conversion called for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) for the complete scope, including of two D202 steam turbine generators; eight heat recovery steam generators; two air cooled condensers; and associated auxiliaries, balance of plant material and all civil works.
