Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Terminal 4 Retail Renovation

Phoenix, AZ

This project consisted of the complete demolition and reconstruction of Level 3 in Terminal 4, including the modernization of 24 public access elevators; retail stores in all concourses; modification of Security Checkpoint C; mechanical, electrical and plumbing system replacement; and new freight elevator installation. Collaboration among various stakeholders (City of Phoenix staff, aviation officials and store owners) was critical during the project.

Most of the HVAC air distribution system and a significant amount of electrical distribution was relocated to allow for higher ceilings. The design was originally programmed for a 36-month implementation and build-out, but Weitz completed the project in 22 months. Complex phasing and meticulous management of material deliveries prevented delays while the tight coordination of both utility shut downs and public area closures ensured maximum production within the time allotted.
