Department of Homeland Security
This new district facility consolidates the offices of the U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Bureau of Immigration and Citizenship Services. The structure surrounds a large central courtyard that allows DHS employees to enjoy fresh air without exiting and re-entering the federal facility’s security checkpoints. The single-story brick facade structure includes 12 skylights to provide an abundance of natural light. Designed and constructed to achieve LEED Gold, 80 percent of the construction waste (400 tons) was recycled.
