NEW RE/MAX international HEADQUARTERS Awarded OFFICE BUILDING OF THE YEAR
Partner collaboration was key to the successful completion of Denver’s newest landmark
DENVER, Colo – November 9, 2007 – In a ceremony yesterday at the Rocky Mountain Real Estate Expo, the RE/MAX International Headquarters was awarded “Office Project of the Year” by the Denver Metro Commercial Association of Realtors and the University of Denver Franklin L. Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management. RE/MAX International, Shea Properties, Barber Architecture and The Weitz Company partnered to complete the distinctive landmark in February of this year.
“Dave and Gail Liniger, co-founders of RE/MAX International, wanted a world-class headquarters that would become a distinctive image for the company, but would also be respectful and complementary to the site and surroundings,” said Bruce Benham, Chief Operating Officer for RE/MAX International. “The completed building is exactly that.”
The elliptical shape and bronze tinted glass of the RE/MAX Headquarters creates a signature building that offers an ever-changing reflection of the spectacular Colorado skies. The architect, Barber Architecture, configured the multi-level parking structure to serve as a buffer between freeway activity to the west of the tower and pedestrian activity and the courtyard on the east.
“It is a really distinctive image off the freeway. I’ve never received so many compliments on a building,” said Michael Barber, the architect who designed the project. “The RE/MAX building is very pure, very simple, a very distinctive form.”
The Weitz Company, the project’s general contractor, worked with program manager, Shea Properties, as well as Barber Architecture from preconstruction, through construction until the completion of this legacy building. Weitz took an aggressive 18 month schedule, combined with a tight urban site and completed the 240,000 square foot high-rise and its accompanying 290,000 square foot parking garage on time and on budget. Weitz managed construction of the state-of-the-art training facility, fully functional broadcast facility, 40-foot lobby ceilings and high-tech conference rooms.
“While the project partners knew the RE/MAX Headquarters would be a landmark project for Denver, it is wonderful to be recognized by our peers for our hard work,” said Bill Hornaday, president of The Weitz Company Rocky Mountain Region. “We look forward to future collaboration with RE/MAX International, Shea Properties and Barber Architecture.”
The new headquarters consolidated RE/MAX’s facilities for easier use by its network of more than 120,000 agents in more than 65 countries.Each level of office space provides flexible workspace and infrastructure that can be adapted as technology and workforce patterns change. The building was designed to be timeless and built to support RE/MAX’s growth.
"The DTC's cache as the premier business park in Denver is significantly enhanced with the addition of the new RE/MAX Headquarters building" said Ron McDaniel, senior vice president for Shea Properties. "Our front door intersection is I-25 and Belleview, the precise location of the new RE/MAX building.
