Weitz Begins Construction of RegionalShopping Center in Mesa
Shopping Center Targets Hispanic Consumer Market and Fills Retail Void in Area
PHOENIX, Ariz. (February 4, 2008)…Mike Bontrager, president of the Southwest Business Unit of The Weitz Company, is pleased to announce that The Weitz Company has began construction on Mesa Ranch Plaza, a regional shopping center at the northwest corner of Southern Avenue and Stapley Drive in Mesa.
“MesaRanchPlaza sits within a vibrant and growing core consumer market area that will patronize the center on a daily basis. The shopping center will fill a retail void that has been under served within the immediate trade area,” says Diversified Partners Development Company, developer of the retail project.
The 18 acre retail development will include eight buildings totaling 214,400 square feet. Soft goods, specialty retail, national chain retailers, financial institutions and professional services will compliment the project. Retail anchors include La Curacao, a California-based chain of department stores and Pro’s Ranch Market. Ownership is in negotiations with several other national retainers to round out the project.
The first phase, expected to be complete by this fall, includes off-site improvements, on-site improvements and construction of six retail buildings. The core project team includes: Diversified Partners Development Company (developer/owner) and Robert Kubicek Architects and Associates (architect) and The Weitz Company (general contractor).
