The Children’s museum of Denver completes NEW outdoor exhibit. The Weitz Company donates construction to make expansion possible
DENVER, Colo. – August 16, 2007 – On August 21st, 2007, the Children’s Museum of Denver, in collaboration with The Weitz Company, a premier national contractor, will open the museum’s new outdoor experience. The exhibit is the Museum’s first venture into outdoor expansion.
The exhibit, known as Hopscotch, includes a Cow Parade cow covered in chalkboard paint, bright accent colors and a chalk filled trough, as well as space for outdoor games such as hopscotch and jacks. The children can interact with the exhibit by writing on the cow with chalk and playing the games that entertained their parents in their childhoods.
“In this era of video and computer games we thought it would be a great way to re-introduce children to outdoor games,” said Tom Downey, Executive Director of the Children’s Museum of Denver.
To celebrate the Hopscotch exhibit, the Children’s Museum is hosting a free event August 21st from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the outdoor plaza. There will be summertime refreshments and classic outdoor games for everyone.
The Weitz Company managed the construction process of the exhibit, which included executing earth work to prepare the site, pouring concrete to lay out the site, serving as the foreman for concrete curbs and bases, permanently placing the cow on the site and coordinating the lay-out of the Astroturf to give the exhibit the final grazing touch.
“The Children’s Museum is one of the best resources for families in Denver, so Weitz is proud to be part of the Museum’s continued legacy,” said Bill Hornaday, president of The Weitz Company Rocky Mountain region. “Our culture is family focused, so it’s the perfect partnership.”
As part of their long-standing relationship with the Children’s Museum, Weitz previously donated construction services for site work on the outdoor plaza, making it possible to host larger, more successful events.
