Midtown Crossing Receives International Applause, Among Prestigious Americas Property Award Winners
Omaha, Neb. – More international accolades for Omaha’s unprecedented urban development. Midtown Crossing is the winner of two prestigious Americas Property Awards – one in the category of “Mixed-use Architecture,” the second for “Retail Architecture.” The Americas Property Awards, in association with Bloomberg Television, celebrate the highest levels of achievement in all sectors of the property and real estate industry. “This international award continues to validate how significant an impact this project is having on our community,” said Tim Holland, principal, Holland Basham Architects (HBA).
Omaha-based HBA, which served as executive architect on the Midtown Crossing project, teamed with Mutual of Omaha eight years ago to create a mixed-use development unprecedented in the City of Omaha. The firm enlisted Cope Linder Architects to assist with visioning and the initial design phase. “We were able to help move Mutual’s vision – and their desire to give back to their community – forward,” said Holland. He continued, “Early on in the design process, we all had a strong sense that this development would have a significant impact on the immediate area around Mutual of Omaha and have ripple impacts around the larger midtown area.” East Campus Realty, the Mutual of Omaha subsidiary that owns Midtown Crossing, will accept the Americas Property Awards on behalf of all involved in the project. The gala awards presentation will take place in London on December 12, 15 months after Urban Land Magazine named Midtown Crossing one of ten projects around the world that embody “the synergy of public/private partnerships.” “To be recognized on numerous different levels, but at this one specifically – on an international level – continues to speak volumes about our project, but also about our city,” said Holland. “Omaha, in the last 10-15 years, has continued to move up in numerous aspects of our community design. I think people today have a lot to be very proud of in terms of where the city’s come and where it’s going.”
The Americas Property Awards, a subset of the International Property Awards, are open to commercial and residential property professionals from North America, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. The International Property Awards, now in their 17th year, are recognized as the highest standard of excellence throughout the global industry. Midtown Crossing is urban living redefined, the fastest-selling condominium community in Omaha history and one of ten projects around the world praised for embodying “the synergy of public/private partnerships” (Urban Land Magazine, 2010). Spanning 15.5 acres in the heart of historic midtown Omaha, Midtown Crossing boasts 225,000-square-feet of unsurpassed dining, diversion and retail as well as nearly 500 condominium and apartment units, ample parking and green space.
